Information Lantern collects

• Account information, including your email address and the user ID used to keep your account separate from other readers.
• Content you choose to save, including article URLs and text, PDFs, highlights, reading position, archive state, imports, and reader preferences.
• Messages you deliberately send through feedback or support.
• Limited technical information processed by hosting, authentication, and analytics providers to deliver the service, prevent abuse, diagnose failures, and understand aggregate website use. This can include request, device, network, and error data.

How the information is used

• Authenticate you and keep each library private.
• Parse, store, search, sync, and display the items you save.
• Keep reading position, highlights, offline copies, and account settings working.
• Answer support requests and repair reliability or security problems.

Service providers

Lantern uses Clerk for authentication, Convex for application data and server functions, Vercel for web hosting and aggregate web analytics, and TypeSafe to tidy saved web pages and to find passages by meaning. TypeSafe receives the text of articles saved from the web, never text you paste or write yourself, and does not train on it. They process information only to provide their services to Lantern and are expected to protect it under their agreements and applicable law. Lantern does not share personal information with data brokers or advertising networks.

On-device information

Lantern keeps offline article copies, images, reader settings, and listening position on your device. System speech is generated by your device. Lantern does not upload or store generated audio.

Retention and deletion

Lantern keeps account information and saved content while your account exists. Permanently deleting an article removes its hosted content after the short Undo window. Choosing Delete account in the app removes Lantern account data, saved content, feedback, and the Lantern sign-in account. It also clears Lantern's offline copies on that device.

Service providers may retain limited security, backup, or transaction records for the periods required by their policies or law.

Saved items are private by default. Choosing Share on an article saved from a public source enables an unlisted Lantern link until you revoke it or delete the article. Pasted text and private uploads cannot be shared through a public Lantern page.

Your choices

• Change the email-notes choice at any time in Account.
• Delete individual articles and highlights in Lantern.
• Delete the complete account from Account, then Delete account.
• Contact Lantern through the support page with a privacy question.

Changes

If Lantern's data practices materially change, this page will be updated before the new practice applies. The effective date above shows the current version.
